Tips for Releasing Fish During Your Next Boat Club Outing

At 321 Boat Club we enjoy seeing our members have a great time out on the river. Take advantage of your membership and try out a different river activity on each of your outings. Have you taken out one of our fishing vessels and tried your luck at fishing? Fishing in the river you can expect to catch fish like snook, redfish and tarpon. But what should you do when you catch one? We would like to share a few helpful tips for safely handling and releasing a fish once you’ve reeled one in:

  • Avoid lifting the fish solely by its lips and hold it horizontally for a photo.
  • Limit the fish’s time out of the water. The less air exposure the better.
  • Handle the fish with a damp glove or towel to help keep its slimy, protective film intact. If the fish is squirming, you can calm it down by covering its eyes with a damp towel while you remove the hook.

As your resource for boat club membership on the Space Coast we hope that the fish are biting during your next river outing.
